Abstract

Objective To explore the correlation in life quality, illness uncertainty, negative emotions and medical coping modes among pulmonary embolism patients to construct a structural equation model in them. Methods From April 2015 to December 2016, 217 pulmonary embolism patients of Department of Pulmonary in a Class Ⅲ Grade A hospital in Tianjin were selected by convenience sampling. Patients were investigated with the 12-item Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) Short-Form Health Status Survey (SF-12) , Mishel's Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS) , Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) , Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ) . The correlation analysis and structural equation model were used to explore the correlation in life quality, illness uncertainty, negative emotions and medical coping modes and to construct a structural equation model in them. Results In terms of mental health, avoidance of MCMQ had the strongest total effects (-0.95) on it; illness uncertainty had the strongest indirect effects (-0.55) on it. In terms of physical health, confrontation of MCMQ had the strongest direct effects (0.794) . Conclusions Bettering pulmonary embolism patients' illness uncertainty and medical coping modes can effectively improve their life quality. Key words: Quality of life; Pulmonary embolism; Structural equation model
