Abstract

Objective To detect the expression of cyclooxygenase-2, nuclear factor-kappaB in human chronic gastritis, atypical hyperplasia, gastric carinoma and to identify the correlation between COX-2 and NF-κB in the development and progression of human gastric carcinoma. Methods Expression of COX-2 and iNOS protein was examined by immunohistochemistry in 28 cases chronic superficial gastritis(CSG), 23 cases chronic atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia(CAG+IM), 19 cases atypical hyperplasia(AH) and 53 cases gastric carcinoma(GC) tissue. Results There were significant differences (P<0.05) when GC group compared with CSG, CAG+IM,separately. The expression of COX-2 and NF-κB protein in gastric carcinoma tissue was correlated with invasion deepth and lymph node metastasis(P<0.05). The expression of COX-2 was positively correlated with that of NF-κB(γs=0.437,P<0.01). Conclusions The overexpression of COX-2 and NF-κB might contribute to the development and progression of gastric carcinoma in coordination. Key words: Gastric carcinoma; Chronic superficial gastritis; Chronic atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia; Atypical hyperplasia; Cyclooxygenase-2; Nuclear factor-kappaB
