Abstract

Objective To analysis the correlation between serum chemerin and apelin levels and insulin resistance in male patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).Methods Sixty-five OSAHS patients (OSAHS group) and 28 healthy voluntrers (control group) were recruited in the study. The states of insulin resistance were evaluated by Homeostasis model assessment.Serum chemerin and apelin levels were measured by ELISA method. Results Compared to the control group, the levels of serum chemerin (0.62±0.10) ng/L vs (0.29±0.03) ng/L and apelin (26.37±8.61) μg/L vs (17.69±4.33) μg/L were significantly higher in patients with OSAHS(P <0.01).The homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) was higher in OSAHS group (P <0.05).The level of serum chemerin and apelin levels were positive correlation to AHI and HOMA IR (r =0.541,0.506 and 0.438,0.375),which were negatively correlated to the lowest SaO2 and MSaO2 (r =-0.451,-0.401 and-0.428,-0.385).all P <0.01.The level of serum chemerin and apelin levels was positive correlated (r =0.511,P < 0.01).The HOMA-IR were in multiple linear regression with AHI,LSaO2,serum chemerin and apelin levels. Conclusions The levels of serum chemerin and apelin were increased and insulin resistance existed in OSAHS patients.and they are correlated to AHI and hypoxia during sleep. Key words: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome ; Insulin resistance ; Chemerin ; Apelin
