Abstract
The study by Mossbauer spectroscopy of various iron (III) salts of p-substituted benzoic acids shows a dependence between Mossbauer parameters and both Hammett's σ and σ0 functions. These results suggest that the substitution of the phenyl ring does not change the ionisation state of iron. Furthermore, σ and σ0 can be readily estimated by Mossbauer spectroscopy.
