Abstract

Determining material properties for input into high speed impact event simulations is a very difficult task. Generation of these material properties first requires a knowledge of how they are used in the respective analytical tool. Three statistically designed studies were completed to investigate the sensitivity of a dynamic finite element code to material parameter inputs. The critical material parameters were found to be a function of the type of response studied as well as the functionality of the specific component. It was determined that the method of material property generation used for the present work provides good correlation with experimentally measured results.
