Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between humanistic care ability, role cognition and perceived social support in undergraduate nursing students, and to provide reference for the cultivation of humanistic care ability. Methods A total of 279 undergraduate nursing students from a medical university in Liaoning Province were selected by convenience sampling method from October to December 2017. Caring Ability Inventory (CAI) , Role Cognition Questionnaire and Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS) were applied in the investigation. Pearson correlation analysis was used for correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis was used for influencing factor analysis. Results In this study, totally 279 questionnaires were distributed and 266 valid questionnaires were collected. The total score of CAI of 266 nursing undergraduates was (183.87±21.61) . Correlation analysis showed that the total score of CAI was positively correlated with the total score of role cognition questionnaire and the total score of PSSS (r=0.645, 0.289; P<0.01) . Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that role recognition was the main predictor of humanistic care, which could explain 47% of the total variation of humanistic care ability of nursing undergraduates. Conclusions The humanistic care ability of undergraduate nursing students still needs to be improved. Nursing educators can innovate educational methods from the perspective of role recognition and social support, so as to enhance nursing students' humanistic care ability.
