Abstract

Objective To explore the correlation between emotional intelligence and humanistic caring ability among nursing students. Methods A total of 365 nursing students of a medical college of Tai'an in Shandong Province were investigated with the emotional intelligence scale and the caring ability inventory from June 2015 to July 2015. The Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between them. Results The total average scores of emotional intelligence and humanistic caring ability among nursing students were (4.97±0.38) and (4.75±0.67) . Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total score of emotional intelligence had a positive relation with the total score of humanistic caring ability among nursing students (r=0.460, P<0.05) . Conclusions The emotional intelligence of nursing students is positively related to humanistic caring ability. Clinical teachers should enhance emotional intelligence so as to improve humanistic caring ability of nursing students.
