Abstract

Considerable effort to leverage digital data was exerted as construction adopts innovative work processes. Among these, Building Information Modelling (BIM) sat at the backbone of digital strategy, with the capability to create huge digital data through its realizable multifunctionality and integration capacity. Ubiquitous to construction, the explosion of huge data through BIM sparked the relevancy of big data. While it was logical that the volume of BIM data swells from the adoption of BIM, a question remains whether the creation of BIM data conjures to big data progression. Hence, this research aimed to examine the relationship between BIM data creation and big data attributes. The study was carried out by a combination of literature reviews and a questionnaire survey. The outcome indicates two groups which are cost and operation and maintenance (OM) data had a very low correlation due to irrefutable reasons, the remaining material, design and schedule data reflected a strong positive relationship. Therefore, the outcome reflects the earlier attestation of the technological fusion in construction.
