IV. CONCLUSION The perforated Si-based microelectrode arrays described in this work are robust, easy to handle and show no noticeable deterioration after repeated use. The three-dimensionality of the Pt microelectrodes allows good electrical connections with nervous tissue as well as the possibility to perform measurements on membrane-tissue sandwiches to be achieved. Specifically developed for the organotypic slice cultures, these arrays represent a powerful tool for monitoring electrophysiological activity of slice cultures over extended periods of time, for pharmacological and toxicological studies.
