Abstract

Based on the texts of the Russian media, the author conducts a cross-sectional analysis of the linguistic existence of the coronavirus pandemic period (from March, 28 up to May, 31 2020). In accordance with the target set, the activation of the word-centrism of national culture is revealed: the emergence of a special layer of today’s vocabulary; the appearance of neologisms included in the event context. The real subject of the study is metaphorical diagnosis of the moral and psychological state of society and the degree to which people are prepared to confront alarming reality; diagnostics of medicine, economics. The detailed metaphor of war is analyzed in particular. The prognostic function of the metaphor characterizing the threats of coronavirus time is distinguished.
