Abstract
18F FDG-PET imaging is performed in cancer investigations to diagnose and follow up oncologic disease. A low-dose whole body computed tomography (CT) scan is performed to identify areas of FDG uptake anatomically. Coronary artery calcification (CAC) can be detected on CT; however, is often overlooked and unreported. CAC testing provides an individualized measure of atherosclerotic burden that integrates an individual’s cumulative lifetime risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). The American College of Cardiology Foundation/American Heart Association adopted CAC as part of a primary prevention strategy.
