Abstract

Elective coronavirus preventive care via telephone and online video consultation Objective: The Institute for Teacher Health offers elective coronavirus preventive care in the context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. This article describes the data and the accompanying evaluation of the online video consultation. Recommendations for practical use are derived from the data and the experience gained. Method: The elective preventive care was provided (optionally by telephone or online video consultation) based on a standardized process taking into account medical findings, medical history and work history. In addition to the medical history, the consultation also included advice on hygiene and infection control in the workplace. A case conference decided on the individual need for protection. Sociodemographic and medical data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Online video consultation was evaluated. Results: During the evaluation period (03/08/2020 – 30/11/2020), data were available from n = 357 individuals (51.8 % via online video consultation, 45.9 % via telephone). 27.4 % were classified as requiring superior protection, 35.3 % as possibly requiring special protection and 37.3 % as not particularly requiring superior protection. The most common relevant diagnoses for high risk were rheumatoid arthritis/polyarthritis, chronic inflammatory bowel disease and diabetes mellitus. Satisfaction with the online video consultation was high. Conclusion: The newly developed standardized procedure for elective coronavirus preventive care has proved to be a viable solution for advising employees in need of protection concerning infection control and hygiene and assessing the risk of their employment in schools. The online video consultation was well received. However, technical hurdles must be taken into account on the part of both the occupational health advisors and the employees seeking advice.
