Abstract
Abstract Two tests were conducted in Bedford Co, VA, in Apr, May, and Jun 1980 with Pounce 3.2EC and Orthene treated (Pioneer 3541) seed to measure the control of cutworms in field corn. In Test A Pioneer 3147 field corn was planted on Jun 11. Plots were 4 rows x 50 ft (36 in spacing) and replicated 4 times. Subplots consisting of 10 plants in each plot were encircled with plastic lawn edging. On Jun 21, 10 cutworms were released into these 10 plant subplots. On Jun 22, Pounce 3.2EC was applied at 0.05 and 0.1 lb ai/acre using the equivalent of 40 gal of water per acre. A Solo backpack sprayer was used at 25 psi. At subsequent dates the number of live plants were counted. In Test B Orthene treated seeds and untreated seeds were planted in plots measuring 6 rows x 36 ft (36 in spacing). Three alternating rows were planted on Apr 25, and the other 3 rows were planted on May 13. The plots were replicated 4 times for treated and untreated seeds. Subplots consisting of 10 plants in each row were encircled with plastic lawn edging. Four worms were released to each row of the earlier corn on May 14 and 12 worms were released on May 25 into each row of late corn. At subsequent dates the number of live plants were counted.
