Abstract

The journals held in many libraries are more valuable than that in less libraries and the journals with high impact factor are more valuable than that with low one. From these two viewpoints, 474 of core foreign medical journals which are the journal titles held in more than half member libraries out of seventy medical school libraries of the Japan Medical Library Association are selected, and their journals' names are listed by 75 subjects in descending order of their impact factor, in order to use it practically as a reference list in the case of decision making which journal to subscribe to in a respective subject field, in addition to or in exchange of existing subscription journals. The comparative analyses of the coverage of the core medical journals in our list with those in the past eight reports concerning biochemistry, microbiology, neoplasms, neurology, pediatrics, pharmacology, physiology, and tropical medicine, are discussed.
