Abstract

The measured excitation functions and angular distributions of four analog resonances excited in the 88S(p, p') 88Sr∗ reaction are compared with a resonance calculation that includes contributions from the direct excitation of the 2 + (1.84 MeV) core state. The experimental results are well reproduced by these calculations and the spectroscopic factors thus extracted are compared with those predicted by a particle-core coupling model. In all the cases studied, the present analysis shows that the distorted-wave Born approximation provides a good description of the direct excitation mechanism.
