Abstract

The dc fault is of great challenge to the normal operation of a DC microgrid, an abrupt increase of fault current will appear and the DC bus voltage can drop deeply. This paper suggests a resistive-type superconducting fault current limiter (R-SFCL) together with the superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) to protect the DC microgrid against dc faults. The principle of the coordination function of the SMES and SFCL under dc faults is analyzed at first. And a DC microgrid integrated with the R-SFCL and SMES model is built in Matlab/Simulink to validate the feasibility of the proposed scheme. This scheme can further improve the effect of limiting the fault current and maintaining the bus voltage stabilization.
