Abstract

Energy and water are essential resources for modern society. Their increasing demands result in various social, economic, and environmental issues. While traditional approaches consider energy and water distribution systems as two uncouple systems, they are interdependent in reality, and this relationship is often known as the water-energy nexus. This paper proposes a new model to optimize both the water distribution network and the energy network which runs the water distribution system. Additionally, we propose a fully distributed algorithm based on the Alternating Direction Method of Multiplier (ADMM), which eliminates the need for a central coordinator and enhances the privacy and security of the system. The effectiveness of the proposed optimization scheme is verified by numerical simulations.
