Abstract

Sustainable development means that it is possible to organize current needs in the way, which does not eliminate the possibility of organizing the same needs in future. It is the ability to maintain a balance of a certain process or state in any system. In business activities, it is the ability to maintain a balance between three areas: economical, ecological and social one. Author presents the possibility of exploiting concept of sustainable development in organizing transport processes. Furthermore, author presents new business model for vertical and horizontal cooperation between logistics services clients (consignees, consignors) and logistics services providers (SMEs), with the aim of increasing the load factor, reducing transport costs and exploiting co-modality concept (use of different modes on their own and in combination in the aim to obtain an optimal and sustainable utilization of resources).
