Abstract

The coordination complexes of formylferrocene benzoylhydrazone (HL) with lanthanide elements, LnL 3· nH 2O (where Ln = lanthanide and Y, n = 1–3), have been prepared by the reaction of HL with the metal(III) chlorides in acetonitrile. The elemental analyses, IR and UV spectra, molar conductance and thermal analyses show that the ligand coordinates to the metals in the enolic form with a molar ratio of 3 : 1. We propose a plausible structure and discuss the thermal properties for the complexes.
