Abstract

The variability and nondispatchable nature of wind power presents sustainable challenges for power system's steady operation and security. In order to accommodate high penetration of wind power and increase the utilization rate of renewable resources, a model of hybrid energy storage system consisting of battery energy storage system and pumped storage power station is proposed in this paper, and a coordinated optimal operation method in the power system is presented. Based on the restriction of upper wind power fluctuation rate limit, a determination method of grid-connected wind farm power output is presented, which can improve the scheduling performance of wind power. The power difference between the original wind farm power out put and grid-connected wind farm power output is mitigated by BESS due to its quick response capacity. Pumped storage power station is used for peak regulation in power system. The proposed model and operation method are verified on a modified RTS-96 system, the results are presented to prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed model and method.
