Abstract

A method to determine the coordinated operation of power electronics equipment in extra-high voltage networks is described. The method can be used for evaluating network expansion scenarios that use power electronics equipment. At first, the load flow is simplified by using node-branch and branch-branch sensitivities. With these sensitivities a linear problem is defined and used to determine solutions for the load flow over the power electronics equipment. Secondly, complex load flow calculations verify the technical admissibility of the solution and the optimal one is identified. Capability of the method is demonstrated by an example.
