Abstract

Failures in power electronic equipment invariably lead to slowdowns and production loss in the oil and gas industry. The paper discusses key failure modes along with design solutions and maintenance practices for ensuring reliable operation of power electronic equipment. The failure modes include power devices, printed circuit boards, capacitors and earthing practices for power electronic equipment. Each mode is separately discussed to bring out improvement areas in both design and maintenance practices. This paper aims to present important design and maintenance practices for power electronic equipment. Upcoming trends in the field of online condition monitoring have also been briefly discussed.
