Abstract

Liquid state computer simulation is reported on a dilute aqueous solution of formamide at 25°C. Analysis of the results reveals essential characteristics of hydrophilic and hydrophobic hydration in the first shell of the hydration complex. A novel cooperativity between the hydrophilic hydration of the carbonyl group and the hydrophobic hydration of the methyne group is observed.
