Abstract
A data transmission system which combines convolutional coding with interleaving and modulation using the tone calibrated technique (TC) is presented for combating multipath fading usually encountered in land-mobile communication channels. By extracting and processing the faded pilot tone, coherent demodulation of the signal and soft-decision Viterbi decoding which channel amplitude measurement can be performed. The irreducible error rate is also reduced and good error performance is obtained. The performance in land mobile radio channels of the system is analyzed. Numerical results for the system with rate 1/2 optimum codes of constraint length k=3 to 7 are also provided. >
