Abstract

Steel converter slag, a by-product of iron- and steel-making plants, was converted into a product containing hydrocalumite-like compound using the alkali fusion method. Most of the crystalline phase in the converter slag was converted into a soluble phase by the fusion method, and could be transformed into a product which included hydrocalumite-type crystals. The ability of the product to remove BO3 −, F−, PO4 3−, AsO2 −, AsO4 3−, SeO3 2− and SeO4 2− from aqueous solution is higher than that of raw slag, especially for BO3 −, AsO2 −, AsO4 3− and SeO3 2−.
