Abstract

Measurements during the French HT-Experiment on October 15, 1986, were concentrated on HT-deposition in plants and soils as a result of conversion to HTO and organically bound tritium (OBT) under realistic conditions. In different types of soils imported from Germany 70% - 94% of deposited tritium were found in the upper 10 cm layer. Deposition velocities ranged from 7.1 . 10/sup -4/ to 1.5 . 10/sup -3/ m/s. OBT in soil was not detectable. The tritium concentrations in plant tissue water were found to be typical for a pure HTO-contamination though 10/sup 4/ higher HT-concentration in air. In all cases the tritium concentrations per liter free tissue water were lower than measured in air moisture of 6945 Bq/l during the exposure time of one hour. About 3% of tritium in plants were organically bound but mainly in exchangeable positions.
