Abstract

Dutch authorities were faced with an immense problem, as changes in the motorway control system would mean that all existing equipment on 400 km of motorways would have to be replaced or changed. At the same time it was required that several new applications would be integrated with this motorway control system. To make things even worse, a new communication standard was adopted for road-side communication. The paper describes the steps taken to ensure a safe way of tackling all these problems.
