Abstract

Sodano's formulae for the Reverse and Direct Problems of Geodesy [2] are shown in Appendices A and B. The writer has conveniently factorized and expressed these formulae in a more conventional notation. Alternative expressions to Sodano's for the azimuths and auxiliary quantities in both problems and the longitude and latitude in the Direct Problem are given in terms of the tangents and secants of the reduced latitude and recommended for all nonpolar work. A means of saving computations of many sines and cosines which arise in the course of the work is also given. Results of data used to test these alternative expressions are shown in Appendix C.
