Abstract
Successful implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) depends largely on the ability to allay fears and suspicions of the less‐developed countries who are seeking to expand and safeguard their technologies. These countries are concerned about the effect of CWC provisions (particularly on‐site inspections) on their economic and industrial development, especially regarding loss of confidential business information. As a nonaligned country with high‐tech industries, India can play a major role in furthering this process. The CWC signatories should make full use of diplomacy in dealing with rogue states that may violate the treaty.
