Abstract

The dynamic problems associated with frequency and voltage control in conventional alternating current systems have received a great deal of attention in the past and the literature is rich with material on these subjects. The introduction of direct current transmission schemes into otherwise conventional systems has given rise to a number of additional control problems which have not been explored in the same depth. In particular the dynamic performance of a high voltage direct current line itself and the interactions between the frequency, voltage and direct current line controllers are of interest. In this paper the analytical model for a particular alternating current - direct current system is given and the results of the analysis of this system are given. These results illustrate the dynamic control properties of the direct current line control system itself as well as the interaction effects which take place between the line controller and the conventional alternating current system frequency and voltage controllers.
