Abstract

This paper focuses on analytically designing controllers or compensators for higher-order closed-loop systems based on the criterion of minimum integral of time-weighted absolute error. In light of the standardization characteristic polynomial whose coefficients are derived from the criterion of minimum integral of time-weighted absolute error, a characteristic polynomial equation is constructed. This characteristic polynomial equation includes the underdetermined parameters of designed controller or compensator whose structures are already determined. Solving this equation, the designed controller or compensator parameters are determined. Application examples indicate that the designed higher-order closed-loop systems have the minimum overshoot responses and the fastest settling times. This method provides another approach to analytically design the controllers or compensators for higher-order closed-loop systems.
