Abstract

Abstract Four insecticides were applied on Aug 1 to 3.05 × 3.05 m plots with 4 replicates in a RCB design for white grub control near Burgaw in Pender County, NC. Liquid formulations were applied in 3 gal of water per plot in a hand-held sprinkling can. Granular formulations were applied with a hand-held shaker. A 0.5 inch rain fell on 3 Aug. Soil type was sandy with 2.5 to 3% organic matter and a soil PH of 5.5. Thatch was minimal. Samples were taken 14 days posttreatment (15 Aug) and 28 days posttreatment (29 Aug). Samples consisted of two 0.09 m2 sections of sod, ca. 12 cm deep selected and dug at random within each plot and examined immediately and the number of healthy grubs recorded. Pretreatment counts averaged 16 grubs/.09 m2.
