Abstract

Abstract Population counts of Cyclocephala sp. were found in northwestern Kingfisher County, Oklahoma which exceeded 60 larvae per cubic foot of soil in late August 1978. Since its economic threshold does not exceed 2 larvae per row foot in small grains, it was necessary to devise a means of control before planting winter wheat. On September 8, 1978, two insecticides, Diazinon 14G and Furadan 10G were applied to fallow, sandy wheat ground prior to planting, then incorporated 2-4 inches with a disc. Both chemicals were applied at 1 lb, 2 lb, and 4 lb ai/acre. At the time of testing, the grub count averages 45 grubs per cubic foot. The insecticides were applied with a three foot Gandy dry fertilizer-applicator starting at 1:00 p.m.; air temperature was 85*T. The plots were 21 feet by 21 feet with a check plot of the small size. Samples were taken in the plots of 1 cubic foot of soil in each treatment on a weekly interval.
