Abstract

Studies with detached betel leaves confirm that depetiolation delays senescence. Further, the results suggest that the synthesis of the proposed senescence factor in the petiole (and midrib) and/or the accumulation of the laminar breakdown products in the petiolar region lead to the onset of senescence.
