Abstract

Corruption is a phenomenon which is increasingly in focus of scientific and expert public, but also a phenomenon which inspires special interest of citizens. Consequences on society which can be caused by corruptive behavior can be alarming and may include, for instance, a lack of trust in state institutions, lack of trust of potential investors in the stability and predictability of economic ambience, which, in turn, can lead to devastation of other democratic values. Different definitions of corruption can impose difficulty in fathoming the complexity of this problem, and thus obstruct taking adequate measures of opposing it. Having that in mind, studying of corruption in police is especially important, because, as a public service, they should have one of the leading roles in combating this social evil. High perception about corruption in Serbian police imposes the need of establishing more efficient systems of internal and external control. To that end, improving the common activities of external and internal control subjects can contribute to improving the reputation of the Serbian police force as well as to reducing police corruption.
