Abstract

HB type inclination control magnetic bearing had been developed to stabilize a flexible rotor which run over the bending critical speed. However one end of the rotor was supported by a ball bearing and the rotor was driven by a DC motor via rubber coupling. In this paper, a combination of HB radial magnetic bearings and axial gap combined motor-bearing is developed to remove the ball bearing and the DC motor. This driving unit is controlled by a PD controller. The rotor has the first bending mode at about 300 [Hz]. To overcome spillover instability, H∞ controller is designed and applied to HB type magnetic bearings. Finally, the developed driving unit is applied to a flexible rotor which can run over fifth bending critical speed.
