Abstract

Abstract Corn was planted on Apr 20 at the University of Delaware’s Substation, Georgetown, DE. Plots of 10 x 17.5 ft were replicated 5 times in a randomized complete block design. Furadan 10G was applied as an at planting and a whorl treatment. Insecticides were applied on Jun 15 when significant whorl infestations (>50%) were observed. Granular insecticides were directed into the whorl of the plant with a hand shaker can. Liquid treatments were applied with a wheelbarrow design, CO pressurized sprayer using 1 cone nozzle per row delivering 30.1 gal/acre at 40 psi. Insecticidal performance was determined by counting the number of whorl infested plants/2 rows on Jun 22 and the number of plants with stalk entrances/2 rows on Jul 12. Corn was harvested from the middle 2 rows of the plots and yield data were obtained on Oct 4.
