Abstract

Abstract Test was conducted on a commercial field planted in 30-inch rows near Queen Anne in Queen Anne’s County, Md. Corn was planted on 20 Apr. Second- and third-instar larvae infested 100% of the corn, which was in the midwhorl stage. Plots were 4 rows × 15 ft replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design. Sprays were broadcast on 4 Jun with a hand-held C02 backpack sprayer calibrated to deliver 20 gal/acre at 40 psi. Granules were applied by shaker can on 5 Jun. On 16 and 17 Jul, 10 corn stalks were selected at random from the center 2 rows of each plot, cut open, and the number of borer tunnels was recorded.
