Abstract

Abstract A range on the Southwest Experiment Station at Lamberton, Minn., was planted to sunflower the last week of May. Plots were 4 30-inch rows arranged in a randomized complete block and replicated 4 times. Insecticides were broadcast at 40 psi in 17 gal/acre total material using a hand-held CO2 sprayer. The temperature at application was 96°F and plant stage was 5.1 (20) (Schneiter & Miller, 1981). All heads were taken from the 2 center rows and threshed without air, an uncleaned sample was removed for damaged seed counts and cleaned, and both samples were weighed together. Yields were calculated and means were compared.
