The purpose of this paper is to analyze the contribution of local wisdom as a halal tourism attraction. This research is carried out with a qualitative research framework. Primary research data is collected by qualitative research methods, namely through observation, interviews, and documentation. Secondary data is obtained through the assessment of articles, books, research reports, documents, and other sources that are valid and support the theme of the research. Observations are carried out in the region and tourist attractions, while interviews are conducted to the Tourism Office and the managers of tourist attractions, communities, and tourists. The collected data is analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The results of this study show that Pekalongan City has the prospect of becoming a halal tourism destination because it has fulfilled the components of halal tourism (attractions, access, amenities, communication, environment, supporting facilities, and celebration). On the other hand, the attractions and attractions owned by Pekalongan City are interesting and diverse. Pekalongan City has distinctive and unique local wisdom and can be an object and attraction of regional tourism. In addition, it is also supported by community security and creativity activities that support local wisdom as a tourism attraction. Culture, Islamic traditions, and local wisdom in Pekalongan City have not been maximally packaged into tourist attractions. The implication of this study is that the packaging of local wisdom into a tourist attraction will contribute to the development of regional tourism. The abandonment of local wisdom as a regional tourism attraction will negate Indonesia which is rich in cultural diversity as a differentiator with other countries in the field of halal tourism.

The purpose of this paper is to identify and explore the role of culinary in the development of halal tourism. Two types of data are needed in this study, namely primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through observation and interviews. Observations were carried out in several culinary centers. Interviews were conducted with five interviewees determined by purposive sampling. The data obtained were analyzed with content analysis and theme analysis to answer research questions. The results of this study show that Pekalongan City is feasible to become a halal tourism destination because the tourism component has met the criteria. The existence of culinary as a tourism amenity has contributed to halal tourism. Furthermore, the existing culinary can be a tourist attraction in itself. Both restaurants and small business actors provide halal guarantees on culinary, provided through certificates and seller guarantees. On the other hand, tourists have a good perception of Pekalongan City's cuisine, both of the variety of food, halal guarantees, and others. However, these conditions must be improved to realize the visit's satisfaction and loyalty. The existence of culinary tourism explicitly needs to be fostered to support halal tourism in Pekalongan City. For this reason, local government policies must issue regulations on culinary as a destination to support halal tourism related to halal assurance.

  • Kuat Ismanto + 1 more

This study aims to describe and analyze the contribution of religious tourism to the development of halal tourism in the regions. Religious tourism in this study includes Islamic religious-based tourist attractions, Islamic traditions, Islamic festivals, and Islamic local wisdom. This research was carried out in Pekalongan City, which is known as “Kota Santri” and its people are known to be religious. This study is categorized as field research. Two types of data are needed in this study, primary and secondary. Primary data is explored through observation and interviews, while secondary data is obtained through documentation studies on books, journal articles, research reports, websites, and so on. The data analysis method uses a content analysis strategy. From this study, it was concluded that this City has religious tourism in the form of Islamic traditions and cultures, Islamic festivals, Islamic local wisdom, and distinctive heritage. Of the various attractions of Islamic tourism, it can be an interesting halal tourism attraction. However, only some of them have been packaged into regional tourist products. To increase the number and strengthen regional halal tourism, it is necessary to identify, explore, and package into halal tourism products. The development of regional halal tourism that ignores religious tourism will lose the spirit of halal tourism.

  • Riska Destiana + 1 more

The disruption era creates great opportunities for halal tourism development by using technology to market halal tourism products. As a pilot project for the halal tourism development, Penyengat Island in Riau Island Province faces the challenges in building its image as a leading halal tourism destination. This study aims to analyze the halal tourism marketing, in this case, digital marketing, on Penyengat Island in the disruption era. This research used descriptive qualitative methods through a literature study with data sources derived from related journal articles and other literature. The efforts of halal tourism marketing for Penyengat Island are not implemented digitally. To market tourism of Penyengat Island, the local government and stakeholders use mass media advertising, billboards, annual festivals, and digital channels such as social media, online booking sites, and e-book guides at halaltrip.com. Yet, the media does not inform tourism events or indicate Penyengat Island as a halal tourism destination. It proves that inadequate information about the concept of halal tourism and/or other available information on halal tourism travel guides for Muslim tourists on the digital platforms used. The efforts to promote Penyengat Island as halal tourism using digital channels are the relevant interesting contents in digital marketing channels, the availability of information on the need for halal services, and innovation on tourism attractions.

  • Salem Harahsheh + 2 more

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to build a better understanding of the concept of Halal tourism as expressed by Muslim Jordanian tourists who want to comply with the Islamic law. The study also examines Jordan as a Halal tourism destination as perceived by those tourists. Implications of marketing Jordan as a Halal tourism destination are among the research questions.Design/methodology/approachThe paper is empirical and quantitative in nature with a survey type. The sample of the study is Muslim Jordanians in the cities of Amman and Irbid. Respondents were chosen randomly in shopping malls, gardens and public places. A self-completion questionnaire was administered to collect the data for the research and 920 questionnaires were returned. The data were analysed using descriptive and reliability and explanatory factor analysis in addition to certain tests such as one samplettest and two samples chi-square tests.FindingsHalal tourism in Jordan is established but needs more enhancements and promotion. Jordan was evaluated positively in 14 Halal services and was unsuccessful in ten others. The motives for Jordanian Muslim tourists who want to comply with the Islamic law, to travel to Halal destinations were destinations that offer Halal-friendly services; to know Islamic religious sites; and to learn about Islamic history. Jordanian tourists were knowledgeable of local and international Halal destinations (78.2 and 67%, respectively). More than half of the sample experienced Halal destinations in Jordan and only 26.4% abroad. From a marketing point of view, the results of this study reveal good awareness of potential Jordanian tourists towards Halal tourism and Halal services. The study revealed that Jordanian Muslim tourists who want to comply with the Islamic law showed significant positive motives to travel Halal tourism destinations. In addition, the study showed statistically significant knowledge and experiences in local Halal destinations, but not in foreign Halal destinations.Research limitations/implicationsThe lack of research on Halal tourism in Jordan gives limited in-depth discussion. In addition, the study sample was chosen from two major cities in Jordan; therefore, further research is needed to include a representative sample of the whole country.Practical implicationsThe paper includes marketing implications on Halal tourism in Jordan. The authors suggest marketing strategies should be launched to emphasise the importance of Halal tourism and marketing Jordan as Halal tourism destination. The recommendations of this study provide positive and negative results on Jordan as a Halal tourism destination. The negative evaluation of Jordan in terms of Halal services should be redressed by the Jordanian Government and the Jordanian private tourism and hospitality sectors to build a positive image of Jordan as a potential competitive Halal destination for Muslim tourists who want to comply with the Islamic law.Originality/valueThe paper is among the first of its kind, which empirically examined the motives of Jordanian Muslims who want to comply with the Islamic law to travel to Halal tourism destinations as well as evaluating Jordan as a Halal tourism destination. This study fills the gap in literature about Halal tourism in Jordan and presents Halal tourism as one of the alternative forms of tourism of high potential for Jordan to compete in this market segment.

The purpose of this study is to explore the factors influencing tourists’ selection of the UAE as their halal tourism destination. The study focuses on tourists who visited the UAE between January 2019 and February 2020, with special emphasis on tourists from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). A mixed methodology approach is used to achieve the study’s objectives: a quantitative survey to collect data from 600 respondents, and in-depth interviews with 10 interviewees to obtain richer and more meaningful information about the respondents’ experiences and perceptions about the different halal tourism dimensions. Research findings revealed that cities’ security and safety measures, family entertainment activities, halal food diversity and international restaurant chains serving halal food are the most important factors influencing tourists to choose the UAE as one of the best halal tourism destinations. Overall, our respondents were highly satisfied with their halal tourism experience in the UAE. This is the first study that explores the determinants of tourists’ selection of the UAE as their next/best halal tourism destination, taking into consideration that Dubai is among the most visited cities in the world. Moreover, this study provides new theoretical and practical contribution to halal tourism. The findings could help tourism operators in the UAE to further develop halal tourism and to explore the opportunities it offers the country. The findings also have significant contribution to the tourism literature and to the practitioners and policy makers as well, since they provide important insights on the main factors that influence tourists’ selection of the UAE as their halal tourism destination. This can in turn help promote the UAE as valuable halal tourism destination regionally and internationally. This study also sheds light on new opportunities for the UAE to become the most attractive halal tourism destination. Muslims increasingly represent an influential consumer segment in the tourism and the fastest growing in the global travel industry. For Muslim tourists, halal food is essential during traveling. In the context of halal food tourism, halal and haram describe each of what is allowed or not to be consumed by Muslims in the Qur’an and the Prophet’s Hadith. It is essential to develop halal food in restaurants and food souvenirs to attract travel in halal tourism destinations. This review aims to identify factors in the development of restaurants and food souvenirs to increase halal tourism. In this paper, a systematic review was adopted as the principal methodology for surveying and analyzing the latest literature. Symbols, utilities, and sensory are the focus of the concept of food souvenirs. Unlike food souvenirs, restaurants emphasize food quality, service quality, and the quality of the physical environment. Food can be the function as a unique image for branding. Halal food in restaurants and food souvenirs can increase the attractiveness of halal tourism. • Dec 30, 2018
  • IJECA (International Journal of Education and Curriculum Application)
  • Arin Fithriana + 1 more

Halal has become a lifestyle that encompasses various aspects of life. The acceptance of halal standards is not only dominated by countries with Muslim populations, but also countries with a non-Muslim majority. This acceptance is based on an understanding of the sustainability and impact of halal products and services on whole life. Modest fashion Indonesia has spread worldwide and represents halal lifestyle. Modest fashion has become a tourist attraction and helped establish good relationship between Indonesia and world fashion. In this case, modest fashion serves as a tool of diplomacy. Unfortunately, modest fashion potency as supporter for tourism development has not been integrated well. This paper explores how modest fashion as a tool of diplomacy through creativity supports tourism. This is because the existence of tourism encourages multiplayer effects for other economic activities. Indonesia's cultural diversity and local wisdom should be an integral part of Indonesia's halal tourism. The contribution of fashion modest as a tool of diplomacy in creative industry to support halal tourism is analyzed using qualitative method through secondary data. The data show the development and acceptance of Indonesian modest fashion as well as its creativity utilizing culture and local wisdom has been widely accepted globally, but has not been fully exploited yet. Modest fashion has established good relationship between international actors. Integrating modest fashion with local wisdom and culture encourages the exploration of tourist destinations that are expected to encourage other halal standards in tourism. Ultimately it is expected to have a positive impact on sustainable development.
