Abstract

Placed in anatomical regions of significant importance, the maxillary sinuses play uniquely specialized functions. The close relationship of these structures to the anatomical study of the face allows the research of a great number of information related to the Oral Medicine field. In this context, this literature review enables the collection of necessary information and organization of historical, embryological, anatomical and pathological approaches related to the maxillary sinus aiming the contribution to the study of these morphological structures. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to improve the dentist's theorical knowledge relating their performance field and focusing effectiveness in the clinical daily practice.
