Abstract

Chapter 9 reviews articles and books, published in either an East Asian language or English, that make contrastive pragmatic studies between East-Asian languages such as (Mandarin) Chinese, Japanese and Korean on the one side and non-East Asian ones on the other. The contrastive studies also concern each of the dimensions dealt with in Part 1 and Part 2. Pragmatic differences between the East Asian languages and non-East Asian languages are highlighted.
