Abstract

AbstractThe uptake of K from alluvial soils was similar to that from associated upland soils under low cropping intensity. Under the high intensity cropping of a Neubauer experiment, the alluvial soils released more K. Within the exchangeable K range 40 to 180 ppm., K uptake was 67 ppm. greater from the alluvial soils than from the associated upland soils at the same exchangeable K level. The reduction of exchangeable K in the soil due to crop removal was greater in the upland than in the alluvial soils. There was no statistical correlation between the mineralogical composition of the soil and the K released.
