Abstract

Objective To evaluate contrast sensitivity (CS) and glare contrast sensitivity (GS) in patients who had undergone phacoemulsification with Aurium photochromic intraocular lens implantation. Methods Seventy patients who were operated with phacoemulsification and IOL implantation were enrolled. One group with 37 eyes implanted with Aurium photochromic intraocular lens, the other group with 33 eyes implanted with Alcon IQ intraocular lens.At 3 months postoperatively, uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA),best corrected visual acuity (BCVA),CS and GS were observed. Results The two lenses did not differ in UCVA and BCVA.There were no significant differences between two groups in photopic contrast sensitivity with no glare and with glare at all spatial frequencies.Similar at all spatial frequencies in mesopic with no glare condition. The Aurium photochromic group showed significantly higher GS at 3.0 c/d and 6.0 c/d in mesopic with glare condition. Conclusions The Aurium photochromic IOL offer visual acuity as well as the yellow blue light-filtering IQ IOL.The Aurium photochromic IOL offer higher GS at 3.0 c/d and 6.0 c/d in mesopic with glare condition. Key words: Cataract; Intraocular lens; Contrast sensitivity; Glare contrast sensitivity
