Abstract

This opinion is in response to Yudina and Fennell’s article ‘Ecofeminism in the Tourism Context: A Discussion of the Use of Other-thanhuman Animals as Food in Tourism’, published in Tourism Recreation Research 38(1), 2013. Animal consumption is a philosophical and personal consideration pertaining to given socio-cultural and economic-political context, much broader than the Tourism/Ecotourism debate. However, tourism-and ecotourism due to its attractive ethical and sustainable orientation-play crucial role in promoting these values globally. Consequently, the issue at stake is the ethical treatment of animals in tourism and ecotourism, and not an outright condemnation of meat consumption (although, depending on the context).
