Abstract

Practitioners from diverse fields are concerned with the continuous monitoring of categorical quality characteristics. For this purpose, we propose different types of control charts to detect both violations of the in-control marginal distribution and of the serial dependence structure. We discuss approaches for designing and evaluating these charts, and we investigate their out-of-control performance. Brief summaries about basic concepts and models from categorical time series analysis complete the article.
