Abstract

The application of continuous zone electrophoresis to the fractionation of sheep pituitary extract is described. Pituitary extract was fractionated into 12 fractions. Each contained 3, 4 or 5 components and each component was common to more than one fraction. It is suggested that the formation of protein complexes prevents resolution into mutually exclusive fractions. Preliminary evidence is given on the distribution of hormone activity.
