Abstract

A highlight of the 1990 Noxious Range Weeds National Conference was “Continuing the Forum for Cooperation,” one of several concurrent sessions. Objectives and goals are flexibility and ability to move fast, center on public land agency needs, enhance interagency cooperation, and coordinate intergovernmental actions to create/improve working relationships and program efficiencies. The Logan meeting clearly established that noxious weeds are an international issue. Walter Yarish reported that coordination for management and control of noxious weeds is a high priority with other provinces and the United States, especially counties along the International Boundary. Control and management of noxious weeds must involve positive information and education materials for use in the private sector if it is to be successful. An overview of impending national noxious weed legislation through the 1990 Farm Bill was presented to forum participants. Mapping through a national data base is effective for some programs, but noxious weed coverage is variable.
