Abstract

This three-part paper brings together a wide variety of potential components of a comprehensive scheme of continuous professional development for engineers and technologists. It underlines the importance of good planning, efficiency and target setting, and for this reason encourages credit rating of CPD activities. Part one outlines history of the build-up of CPD from the professional engineer's point of view in the context of other UK professions.
