Abstract

Abstract The paper presents a model of contemporarysedimentation in the forefield of Hornbreen, tidewaterglacier in Brepollen. The model is based on the results ofgrain-size analyses of bottom sediments and the informationabout dominant sedimentary processes in glaciatedfjords. It is concluded that apart from the tidewater glacierwhich is the main source of sediment in this area, the materialis transported also from the shores. Subsequently, the material is redeposited by iceberg-caused reworking, slides and gravity flows. Strong decreasing trend of particles’diameters with increasing distance from the ice cliffis observed.
